WHO DO YOU ATTRIBUTE SUCCESS TO?
Ms. Collins attributes her success to her strong determination and a desire to be a good role model for her children. She includes them in her company’s activities, such as giving out toiletries or feeding the homeless. She teaches them that, even if they are not wealthy, they are lucky and should share their good fortune with others.
WHY DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN YOUR PROFESSION OR INDUSTRY?
Ms. Collins became involved in her profession through a unique journey that began with her background in law. Initially working as a paralegal, she encountered numerous juvenile cases that highlighted significant issues facing children, particularly those stemming from school-related problems and a lack of support after school hours. Recognizing the urgent need to address these challenges before youths became entangled in the legal system, she shifted her focus to education. With a passion for helping young people, Ms. Collins embarked on a career as an educator, specifically in middle school studies. She believed this age group was crucial, as students often seek attention, whether good or bad, and simply want to feel cared for. Through her teaching, she aimed to foster self-confidence and awareness among her students while also bridging the gap between families and schools. This dual focus ultimately led to the founding of MpowermentU, where she continues to promote literacy and empowerment for both children and their families.
THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF YOUR CAREER, WHAT WAS THE ONE HIGHLIGHT THAT STOOD OUT THE MOST?
Ms. Collins’ most notable achievements are her three children. Her oldest daughter, a 28-year-old, is a dedicated teacher. Her 18-year-old son is currently in boot camp for the armed forces. She also has a 12-year-old daughter who brings joy and energy to their family.
WHERE WILL YOU BE IN FIVE YEARS?
In the next five years, Ms. Collins’ goal is to help others and make a positive difference in the world. She focuses her efforts on supporting families, especially her own children. She knows it is important to empower both children and the parents who raise them, as everyone needs help at times. In her work, Ms. Collins partners with organizations such as the Jacksonville Housing Authority. She helps families discover important resources they may not be aware of. By assisting parents with things like rental support, she makes a significant impact on their lives.
